Our bulk bags of machine-filled mixed hardwood logs have a mix of different hardwoods in them. Primarily they are a mix of birch & alder logs. This bag will mainly contain standard smaller logs, which are perfect for smaller fires and for those looking for easy to light, quick high heat. While also being a great price!

The log diameter can vary and ranges from 50mm - 200mm, and the length varies from 180mm - 220mm (8"). These logs are suitable for most stoves but are ideal for small & medium sized stoves.

Kiln Dried Birch logs are one of the most popular types of hardwood for burning in the UK, they are a softer hardwood that is easy to light and gets burning quickly. While Black Alder is a denser hardwood that burns for longer than birch, but still produces a lot of heat and a sweet pleasant aroma.

Our logs are FSC Certified, and sourced responsibly from a reputable producer, offering consistently good quality, along with the peace of mind that your fuel is being sourced in the right way.

All of our firewood is certified with the Ready to Burn scheme, our certificate number is WS480/00001. This gives you peace of mind that all of our firewood is properly kiln-dried, and has a moisture content of 20% or less.

Birch & Alder firewood gives off excellent hot heat, is easy to light, produces a pleasant sweet aroma and gives an authentic feel to a cosy fire on a winter's evening.

Description

Kiln dried Birch & Alder logs are a great choice for customers wanting to and easy to light and use fuel for their wood burner or chiminea.

Why Are Birch & Alder Logs Good For Burning?

The hardwoods Birch & Black Alder are similar softer hardwoods, meaning they are easy to light, get to temperature quickly and produce a high heat flame. Alder also produces a pleasant sweet aroma when burning. They are perfect for those looking for simplicity and ease when burning fire wood.

The logs are also 8" in length, which is shorter than the 10" standard log size. Meaning they are perfect logs for smaller stoves and fireplaces.

So how do you tell the difference between birch and alder? Birch has a silver/white bark and is a lighter wood in both weight and colour. While the black alder has a darker bark and an orange tint to the wood.

All firewood sold by Fitzpatrick Fuels is air dried before being split and put into a kiln.

It is kiln-dried for an average of seven days, with excess water drawn out to leave a moisture content rating of less than 20 per cent.

Are kiln dried logs environmentally-friendly?

Sourced responsibly, Fitzpatrick Fuels’ range of kiln dried firewood is approved by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) – an international, non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the sustainable management of forests.

How to use:

As always, before lighting a new fire, be sure that your stove has been cleaned from last use. Having too must ash residue in the stove restricts airflow, and makes it harder for you to light the fire.

To start, place a handful of kindling in the stove and add a couple of firelighters. Light the firelighters with a long match or lighter. From here, add another handful of kindling on top of the firelighters.

Once your kindling is burning with a flame, add 2 – 3 logs to the fire. Once the logs have caught fire, reduce the amount of airflow directed into the fire, this will make the logs burn for longer.

Add more logs as necessary.
